News Archive: 2007 Dec 2007 - We received more than enough donations for the children's Christmas fund and new refrigerator
- Amanda and 10 others left for a 30-hour trip to Tenali on December 27
Nov 2007 - All 70 children were sponsored
- New photos were posted of the most recent children, water heater, and shed constructed to protect the generator
- A widows page with photos was added to the website
Oct 2007 - Six more children were sponsored, with three others awaiting sponsorship
- Prayers were requested for the directors and staff of Sanctuary Home
- Sanctuary Home began supporting ten new widows thanks to Ruth Jackson and the Ya-Ya Merry Widows
Sept 2007 - Akhil had a successful vision correction surgery; the cost of the surgery ($250) was paid for by his sponsor
- We announced the need for the installation of water heaters in preparation for the cold winter
- Sanctuary Home was represented with a booth in the ACU Teague Center during the 2007 Lectureship
Aug 2007 - The Abilene Reporter-News featured an article about Ruth Jackson and her India paintings
- The Abilene ArtWalk featured a "Children of India" exhibit with postcards available for sale
July 2007 - The building was completed and prepared to take in twenty more children
- The $900 raised in the June 23 fundraiser was used to pay for the stair rails
- 15-year-old Jansi left when her mother insisted that she return home to marry a 21-year-old man she had never met
June 2007 - Fifth graders Naga Prasad, Prakash, Kirya, and Reetu, as well as seventh graders Srinu, Samson, and Kiran, began attending private schools for $100 per student per year
- Ch. Gopi, Malathi, and Sony passed the seventh grade exams
- Navakiran completed tenth grade, passed college entrance exams, and was sponsored for $250 to go to college
- A June 23 fundraiser brought in $900 for Sanctuary Home
May 2007 - The interior wall of the new building was plastered
- The children received new cricket bats, jump ropes, badminton equipment, soccer balls, and other sports gear
- New uniforms were made to prepare for the academic year beginning in June
- Sanctuary Home awaited FCRA status
Apr 2007 - A new generator was installed at the rented Sanctuary Home building
- An eye camp was conducted. Dilip was found to be blind in one eye, and was sent to an eye specialist in Gunthur, along with Paran and Venkatesh
- Jansi recovered from malaria
- Gopi Ch.'s condition was a concern; the doctors tested him to determine a diagnosis and treatment
- Sanctuary Home welcomed new volunteer Emily Antilley to help with paperwork and adminsitrative details
- Ruth Jackson displayed her first completed India painting at our Sanctuary Home gathering
Mar 2007 - The children had an enjoyable visit to the amusement exhibition in downtown Tenali, which featured games, rides, etc.
- Birthdays were celebrated with sweets and cake
- $400 was raised toward the cost of the $1,800 generator
- $4,500 was raised toward the $9,000 needed to finish the building
- We received two new boys - Aramraju and Vijay Kiran
Feb 2007 - The trip was very successful and encouraging, and the sponsor video was a success
- Sanctuary Home grew to include six new children - Levi, Dilip, Venkatesh, Hanuman, Teja, and Sai Kumar
- Dilip's parents died four years ago. He continued his education for two years, but had to leave school in order to support himself. He collected recyclables to sell while living under a tarp in the slums.
- Isaac's vision was to finish the first floor of the church building in order for the children to live there
- The plans for the new facility were finished. The facility would include enough space to separately house boys and girls, and contain a large kitchen and several bathrooms. Total cost to finish: $9,000
- Ruth Jackson began turning children's artwork into postcards to sell as fundraisers
- Sanctuary Home was granted tax-exempt status, and was registered at Mission Fish (a charity helper for eBay)
