The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

Prabhakar already has a sponsor.

Prabhakar's situation is a little different. His mother, Victoria, is the cook for Sanctuary Home. She and her son were destitute before she came to work at the home. Prabhakar is already living in Sanctuary Home, but still needs a sponsor to provide for his needs. Of course, we were unwilling to hire Victoria without taking him in as well - so he became Child #42. Although this child is fortunate enough to have his mother, and she is now fortunate enough to have a place to live and a job, he would still welcome letters and the friendship and encouragement from a sponsor. Like the other Sanctuary Home children, before he came to live there he was unable to attend school, did not have a home, and often did not have enough to eat. His mother is a widow, a hard worker, and a member of the church.

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about my interview with Prabhakar. First of all, we observed him playing and interacting with the other children and he seems very happy; we didn't perceive any problems. Prabhakar was one of the boys who always seemed to be around, and I think he was one of our favorites. He was such a little gentleman with his proper English. He asked Ray, "What is your good name, sir?" He's adorable, and always smiling. Prabhakar is 12 years old and in 8th class. his favorite subjects are science and social studies, and he likes to play cricket, caroms, and badminton. We also noticed that he is quick to help others, and enjoys leading a prayer or helping to serve food. He had never been in a car before, and had a special treat of going with us to a gospel meeting in a neighboring town. On this trip, he was perfectly behaved. We asked him about himself, and like most of the others, he commented about SH: "We get what we need immediately, study materials also. No problem here, very happy. Sick kids treated immediately." He asked for prayers for his health and his future - and he wants Linda to come and see him. I hope you do meet him at some point; he really is charming.
