The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

 Devaraj already has a sponsor.

Child profiles by P.Isaac, Tenali, India

The situation is so grievous that I cannot speak about this boy.  His father while traveling in the train slipped and died his mother too died due to cancer. They both were the church members.  He was being looked after by aged couple who were the parents of his father.  The aged man was a rickshaw puller recently died.  The old women could not look after the boy.  Because of her poverty and inability so that presently his condition is so pathetic as he is on the roads.  One of our believer got contact with him and he gave me his information.  I personally went and found him pitiable in this regard I humbly urge your good selves to make his future successful through your kind sponsorship.

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Devaraj. First of all, we spent the week observing him play and interact with the other children, and he is a happy boy and we didn't perceive any problems. As with most of the children, when we put him on the spot with the interview, he was a bit bashful. He's so little; he didn't talk much, and we mostly asked questions about him instead of to him. I did ask him directly about why he needed a rupee to go to school! He answered in Telugu, "chocolate and chickoli." So not to worry - Isaac said it was for "his personal satisfaction", and he uses it to buy himself a candy. He is so adorable! He is 6 years old and in 1st class. He like math and numbers, and he likes to play ball games. He would like to learn English. His remarks about SH: there is good food and good care of his clothes, and he likes eating the snacks every evening. He wants to become a good citizen.

Devaraj is the second smallest boy at SH, and he is a favorite of all. I never saw him fussing or whining (none of them did!). He also likes to sing. Please pray for him - for good health, a good education, and that he will be a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ.
