The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

Jansirani already has a sponsor.

Child profiles by P. Isaac, Tenali, India.

I am very much worried about this girl who’s name is Jansirani. Her father was a ricshaw puller he died in an accident while he was in a heavey tropic. Her mother was working in few houses as a women servant. This girl was unable to have her food with her mother as the means was insufficient she personally requested me whether I can help this girl. With heavy burden in my heart I urge all of your good selves to bless this girl with a bright and better future through your kind sponsorship.

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Jansi. First of all, we spent the week observing her play and interact with the other children, and she is a happy girl and we didn't perceive any problems. I believe she is the oldest girl; she's definitely one of the leaders, and she sets a good example. She helps with the younger girls. Jansi didn't tell us this, but we noticed that she likes to dance and sing. She is also a very beautiful girl and has a shy smile. Jansi is 14 years old and in 8th class. Her favorite subjects are English and math. Her favorite games are skipping (jumping rope), kabaddi, and volleyball. According to Rajankanth, Jansi is kind and helpful, and she cares for the other girls when they're sick. Most of the children were bashful when we interviewed them, but Jansi spoke up: "Surely I can do the good job in my studies." She asks that you please pray for her to have success in her education, and for the Lord's help in her daily life. She says that she prays for you. (her sponsors)

Another update: June 28, 2007. Unfortunately, Jansi is no longer living at SH. Her mother arrived to inform the staff that Jansi was to be married. Legally, we could not stop this, and Isaac was unable to persuade the mother otherwise. Jansi has no say in the matter. Indians, especially in rural areas, typically view girls as a burden. Once they become physically mature, they are a huge liability to the family and must be married off as soon as possible. Jansi could have finished her sewing training and school, and then returned to support her mother, or at least have a marketable skill to rely on, but that did not happen in this case. Jansi was married today. Please pray for her future. We will miss her.
