The Children
Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.
Jeevanbabu already has a sponsor.

I am very much upset due to the merciless condition of this boy. Therefore I narrate his living condition. For your kind information father died out of HIV which his mother influenced so her life is not guaranteed as she is battling with death. As he was tested, result came as HIV negative. This boy was found in a pitiable condition presently living in one of his relations tatched house by the side of the road people who are taking care of him got their own children thereby he was neglected I personally urge your good selves could come forward to make his life a model to many with his prosperous future through your generous means of sponsership to him.
That was before...this is after...
Greetings! Here is your report on Jeevanbabu. He is the only child we were unable to interview. It would have been like interviewing a toddler. Also, he was afraid of us, so it wasn't easy for us to get close to him. We asked a lot of questions about him, and we did observe him whenever he was around. He is four years old, but his growth is stunted due to the HIV - according to the staff at SH. (Update: he has now been tested and does NOT have HIV)However, a number of the SH children (and other adults) are quite small by American standards, which I think is party genetics, but also might have something to do with nutrition. Jeevanbabu also has delayed development, but I suspect that's because he was neglected before he came to SH. He is no bigger than a typical American two year old, and he doesn't say much, although I was assured that he does talk some when strangers aren't around. Many of the activities he didn't participate it, such as the picnic to the beach - he is simply too little and would have to be constantly watched, unlike the bigger kids. During the days, he is often cared for by the dhobi (the clothes washer at SH) or the other SH women (Victoria and Kumari). The other children care for him a lot, too, and often one of them is holding him or playing with him. He often wants to go to school with the other children, and he is allowed to follow them. While at school, he sometimes listens, and sometimes plays on the floor. When he gets bored, one of the school staff brings him back to SH. All of the schools the children attend are within a short walking distance of SH. At age 5, he will start school himself.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
