The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

Nagaraju already has a sponsor.

Child profile by P.Isaac, Tenali, India

I really get no words to explain the unkind condition of this boy by name Naga Raju Palakollu.  He used to stay in a village which was in full of disputes.  Rivalry, caste system dominated the village.  In one incident he was stabbed due to above said reasons.  By the time mother was so ill.  Now her health condition is further deteriorated. No hope of her survival.  In this hard situation he has been addicted of begging.  When I was going on the road I could find him in unkind situation.  Elders of the village requested me to take of this boy. With grateful heart that I am doing His work I am very much moved to keep him in SH. In this regard with heart of humbleness I appeal your goodselves so that he may be sponsored with through which his future may turn into a prosperous one.

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Nagaraju. First of all, we spent a lot of time observing him playing and interacting with the other children, and he seems like a happy child and we didn't perceive any problems. He has a shy smile, and is one of the more quiet boys. He is in 1st class, and is age 9. Before he came to SH, he had never gone to school. Older children in earlier grades is not at all unusual in India for a variety of reasons; school just isn't as standard as it is in the US, and some children have to quit to get jobs or for other reasons, and the fortunate ones get to return. So Nagaraju isn't out of place as a 9 year old in first grade. His favorite subject is Telugu. He likes to play cricket and volleyball. He says that he likes his clothes and the good food, and that he is well cared for. He says there is no hunger in SH. He was hungry before. He has asked for prayers for his future and his health. He sends his greetings to Pat and Karin, although with some uncertainty - like many of the children, he was a bit bashful when put on the spot during the interview.
