The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

Malathi already has a sponsor.

Please see that the pathetic condition of this girl who’s name is Malathi her father developed HIV after 4 years of her birth. He died due to lack of proper treatment. Her mother too is bed ridden. Any time AIDS may claim her life. In this merciless condition this girl was found when I was on gospel tour. When I personally visit their thatched house I got no words in such a way I was grieved. There was an old lady with them who could not do any thing by her self.  In this particular regard I request all of your good selves to place your kind hands on her better future and extend your love through your sponsorship.

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Malathi. First of all, we spent the week observing her play and interact with the other children, and she is a happy girl and we didn't perceive any problems. Her name is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable, MAL-uh-ti. She is 12 years old and in 7th class. We saw less of Malathi than of some of the other girls; 7th class is very stressful and time-consuming, along with 5th and 10th classes. She goes to school for longer hours, and it's very important to get good marks those years. I don't fully understand their school system, but I know a lot more than I did. Because of the importance placed on grades those years, and how much better the private schools are than the public schools, Isaac has been spending his own money to send the SH kids who are in 5th, 7th, and 10th classes to private schools.

Malathi's favorite subject is Telugu, and she likes to play badminton. She says she is currently feeling better. She still has periods of feeling "dull" where she just sits and rests a lot. She is getting regular medical care, still recovering from pneumonia. She seemed somewhat subdued, and I was told it was because of her ill health. But when we asked her what we could pray for her, she asked that we pray for her friend at school, who has a bad kidney. She did ask that we pray for her cousins and relatives, and for mercy on her. Like many of the SH children, she remembers family members who have died or left her, and more distant relatives who can't care for her. Pray for her peace and comfort.

Despite these things, we did see Malathi smile a lot, and we heard her sing - she has a beautiful, haunting voice, and her song will be on the DVD once we get it finished. She had a part in the nativity play put on by the children; she was one of the girls dancing before King Herod. She did a great job. Although she is one of the older girls, she is very small for her age and has a tiny little voice. She is a beautiful girl, calm and quiet and sweet. Thanks again for your support of Malathi; you're doing a great thing!
