The Children

Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.

Sonny already has a sponsor.

With my broken heart I would like to narrate the pathetic condition of this girl. The family was living below the poverty line. Her father was a vegetable seller. while going to the rural area on a bicycle in the  early morning, thick fog could not give him the way. His bicycle later collided with a truck as a big bag of vegetables on the bicycle truck hit him since he could not see the way . Instantly he breathed his last. Her mother could not look after her as she was growing sickness. currently the condition of the girl is having no food, no proper dress, going door to door to clean the vessels but the venture became futile. For your kind information they neither have house nor proper food. What ever the mother earns not able to meet even the house rent. Here I urge your good selves to make this girl's future as prosperous one through your generous sponsorship .

That was before...this is after...

Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Sony. First of all, we spent the week observing her play and interact with the other children, and she is a happy girl and we didn't perceive any problems. Her name is pronounced Sony (like the electronics company) - and I saw that she spells it that way, instead of Sonny. She is 11 years old and in 7th class. We saw less of Sony than of most of the other girls; 7th class is very stressful and time-consuming, along with 5th and 10th classes. She goes to school for longer hours, and it's very important to get good marks those years. I don't fully understand their school system, but I know a lot more than I did. Because of the importance placed on grades those years, and how much better the private schools are than the public schools, Isaac has been spending his own money to send the SH kids who are in 5th, 7th, and 10th classes to private schools.

Sony's favorite subject in school is Hindi, and her favorite game is cricket. She misses her father a lot (he is deceased); please pray for her comfort. Her remarks about SH (through a translator): there is good health and good food here, all are friendly in SH. Sony is a quiet and calm girl, and is always preoccupied with her education. She says SH is a good place to live. We did see her come out of her shell some at the beach, where she laughed and played with the other girls in the water. We also noticed that she likes to dance and sing, and she was eager to join in when the other children were performing for us.
