The Children
Some of the children shown on this site are without a sponsor, although all forty-eight currently live in Sanctuary Home. Previously, they lived on the streets. Those classified as orphans have no parents to care for them. Those classified as semi-orphans were also in a merciless situation: they have one living parent who has remarried, and according to their culture, they are not welcome in the new household. Some have a parent who can't care for them, and some have been abandoned. All of these children need to have their physical needs met, as well as their emotional needs and an education. If you would like to sponsor a child, please email us to find out which children need sponsors at this time. Update: All forty-eight children are sponsored. Once we complete the new SH building, we will need sponsors for an additional twenty children.
Srinu already has a sponsor. Srinu's brother is Sambaiah.
Child profiles by P.Isaac, Tenali, India
Here is a boy by name Srinu.P, my heart is very much moved to speak about this boy and his brother. His father was a robber. Once policemen caught him and put him in the jail. Due to torture in the lockup he suddenly died. Condition was so pitable that his mother cannot feed him and his brother. His mother put him and his brother in a small hotel to clean the dishes. They were not able to get adjusted presently they are on the streets. One of our church members pleaded me if I can help them in any way. For your kind information they were not Christians, his mother was attending in the Church after her husband passed away. But recently she too was dead in accident. I specially appeal your good sleves that this boy with his brother may be brought to your generous means as your kindness influences them. In this regard they need your cordial co-operation to this boy and his brother Sambaiah.
That was before...this is after...
Greetings! I wanted to tell you about our interview with Srinu. First of all, we spent the week observing him play and interact with the other children, and he is a happy boy and we didn't perceive any problems. As with most of the children, when we put him on the spot with the interview, he was a bit bashful. He is 12 years old and in 6th class. (Some of the original info on the children was incorrect, so we asked them all their current age and grade.) His favorite subjects in school are Hindi and Telugu. He is a good swimmer, and he enjoys cricket and running. His best friend is Prabhakar. When we asked what we could pray for, he said good studies and good health. During the interview, he was very serious. He also said that he likes everything at SH, and listed some things that are provided for him: books, pens, good food, medicine, study hours, and care. He said that Isaac Uncle takes care every day, visits often, and asks how it's going and what they need.About the swimming: I asked where the children went to swim, and was told a very amusing story by Isaac. In the early days of SH, a group of five or six boys sneaked away from SH without informing anyone, and they went to one of the canals to go swimming. The canals are very dirty - I can only imagine what's living in that water. The other children reported on the naughty boys, and Isaac went to retrieve them. I had the impression that the only physical punishment they received was a twist of the ear, but that they got quite a talking to. Isaac explained more about the nature of SH, what was being offered to them, and what was expected of them. The boys were very repentant and promised never to do it again. Isaac called all of their names and had them line up before me, each wearing a very sheepish grin, shaking their heads and making motions with their hands to indicate "never again." It was difficult to keep a straight face. So some of the boys are good swimmers, but they're not permitted to swim in the dirty canals.
